About Physiotherapy at Connect

Experts in a range of manual therapies and exercise, Connect physiotherapists specialise in assessing and treating musculoskeletal disorders. Musculoskeletal disorders are problems with bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons, usually causing pain or discomfort and limiting movement and function.

The aim of your initial appointment with one of our physiotherapists is to determine the cause and nature of your problem and to establish what outcome you want to achieve. To do this, your physiotherapist will ask you a series of questions and examine the problem area. Once the problem is identified, your physiotherapist will explain it to you and discuss the relevant physiotherapy treatments available.

Our chartered physiotherapists will also indicate the outcomes associated with each physiotherapy treatment option and the timescales involved. Depending on the complexity of your problem, you may also receive some physio treatment at your initial appointment.

Some patients can achieve a good outcome with exercises and advice, others will gain maximum benefit from a course of physio treatment.

Sometimes, to speed or enhance your recovery, your physiotherapist may recommend that you also see another member of the Connect team. This could be the podiatrist who can help with optimising lower limb performance, our Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultants or perhaps one of the massage therapists to aid relaxation.

Having a range of clinical specialists on each site means this can be easily arranged and ensures continuity of care.

Physiotherapy Treatments

All of Connect’s physiotherapists have undertaken specialist postgraduate training in the management of musculoskeletal conditions, most of them at Masters level.

We supplement this with a robust programme of in-house training ensuring your physiotherapist can offer you a diverse range of safe and effective physiotherapy treatments and techniques including sports physiotherapy treatments.

Your physiotherapist will also want to ensure that you know how you can contribute to your own recovery and prevent recurrence. They will provide advice and education related to pain management, home exercises and tasks at home and work as well as sport related activities.
