Improving Ergonomics

What Is Ergonomics ?

The aim of Ergonomics/Human Factors, is to ensure that humans and technology work in complete harmony with the equipment and tasks aligned to human characteristics.

This is achieved by:

  • Ensuring the design of equipment and systems are easy to use and less likely to lead to errors in operation
  • Ensuring the design of tasks and jobs are effetive and take account of human needs
  • Ensuring the design of equipment and workstations improves working posture and eases the load on the body
  • Ensuring the design of mandatory training covers all significant aspects of the job concerned and takes account of human learning requirements
  • Ensuring the design of the working environment suits the needs of users and the tasks performed

How can Connect help identify & improve workplace ergonomics?

Having been established for over 19 years and with a huge range of customers, Connects expanding team of occupational physiotherapists have a wealth of experience between them and the training to assist companies with their ergonomic problems.

Does good ergonomics come at a price?

Good ergonomics doesn’t have to cost you money but ignoring ergonomics and allowing bad ergonomics within your business will. Frequently there are often practical, inexpensive solutions to resolving problems.

The benefits of good ergonomics are:

  • Improved workforce performance and efficiency
  • Improved workforce health and safety through reducing accidents, errors and injuries
  • Ensuring legal compliance
  • Improving job satisfaction and workers’ attitudes
  • Better employer/employee relations
  • Providing a positive company image

Some of the areas in which ergonomic principles can be applied to good effect are:

  • Office based
  • Production line
  • Manual Handling
  • Driving
  • Equipment evaluation

There may be occasions where a bespoke ergonomic assessment by a qualified ergonomist is required. Connect now employs appropriately qualified professionals (with Masters Qualification in ergonomics) who can provide this level of service.

If you need help to address any ergonomic issues, whether it be your own personal workstation, a group of employees, or a production/process issue, then contact Connect for further information and advice.
